| | | Sounds from Water Fountains...Is your home or office acoustically “live” or does it absorb sound? | When you tap a tuning fork in your space, do you hear an echo, do voices travel throughout your home with ease? Then you probably have a very “live” space, and the sound of a water fountain will be magnified. If you typically have to raise your voice to be heard, then your space is either noisy to start with or you space is “live,” which means the sound of the fountain will also be magnified.
Generally speaking, a water fountain will be quieter if it’s a flatter fountain, such as a wall waterfall or a flat floor fountain. If the water fountain has many surfaces onto which the water drops, the sound will be greater. Other criteria include the material of which the fountain is made: metal will resound more than some stone-like surfaces that are pitted to look like porous stone or concrete. You have some control over the sound by using the control on the pump that comes with your fountain…turn it down for a gentler trickle or up for greater volume and more waterfall sound. Placing stones in the base of the fountain will change the quality of the sound as well. If the fountain is placed in an echoing space, the sound will be louder than if it is in an open, grassy area. Experiment until it is to your liking!
